New FKI Logistex® tilt-tray and cross-belt sorters achieve
next-generation space and energy efficiency
Key Facts:
• New high-speed energy-efficient Linear Synchronous Drive saves over 164 Mega Watt hours (164000 kWh) of energy*
• Frees space and increases throughput within existing facilities
• Avoids expansion or new-build costs
• Common platform simplifies installation and improves system availability
FKI Logistex® - a global leader in integrated material handling solutions – has announced the launch of new LS-4000E tilt-tray and LS-4000CB cross-belt sortation systems designed to deliver next-generation efficiencies in space and energy usage. The new systems share an ultra-compact footprint and a common platform as well as introducing new high-speed energy-efficient drives.
FKI Logistex delivers real environmental benefits with their leading-edge technology that cuts sorter power consumption and reduces energy costs, minimising carbon dioxide emissions. Rather than just aiming for incremental improvements, our unique Linear Synchronous Drive technology developed for the LS-4000E tilt-tray sorter addresses the biggest cause of sorter power consumption, dramatically reducing running costs. The power consumption of a typical system is only 7.5 kW, approximately one quarter of the consumption of the industry norm*. Other sorters make use of conventional linear induction motors (LIM) whilst FKI Logistex is the only company to offer a linear synchronous motor (LSM) based drive. FKI Logistex’s technology delivers solutions that are truly greener, cleaner and more efficient.
Jerry Woodhouse, Managing Director of the company’s European Operations, explained: “The new LS-4000 sorters increase handling and distribution efficiencies while decreasing product life-cycle costs (PLCC) without the need for investment in expanding existing warehouse and distribution space, or in greenfield site construction.”

Improved levels of energy efficiency and PLCC are achieved with a new high-speed linear synchronous motor based drive which eliminates contact between moving parts and provides ultra-low levels of wear and tear as well as very low levels of noise.
The LS-4000E and LS-4000CB systems enhance space efficiency with a modular design which features low section heights and up to six metres between supports. This frees valuable space above the system and at floor level, which can be used for sprinkler systems, personnel and vehicle access or additional conveyors, sorting and storage systems, as well as improving access for maintenance. The use of a common platform for both sortation systems simplifies installation and increases overall system availability.
The LS-4000E is designed to sort single-tray items measuring up to one metre in length, although longer items weighing up to 50 kilograms can be handled by 2 or more trays, whilst the LS-4000CB cross-belt sorter provides precise positioning and gentle handling for high-friction and fragile items in applications such as overnight delivery and fulfilment.
An international network of FKI Logistex Customer Service and Support (CSS) facilities offers a 24/7 help desk as well as access to on- and off-site technical assistance, maintenance and training for the LS-4000 systems.
