IET to close Flipside

Monday, June 30th, 2014

Sadly the IET has decided to close its magazine for teenagers, Flipside. The last issue will be out in early July. This is disappointing news. Although it is clearly difficult for an organisation to keep such a publication running – I’m sure they probably made a loss from it – I hate to see publications…

Thursday, June 26th, 2014

Like many people I love Flipboard. I’ve been curating a magazine on the platform for some time, and have steadily built up a readership of several hundred. It covers a wide range of B2B marketing topics, so why not check out our publication B2B Tech Marketing. Read our magazine

EDN launches tablet edition

Friday, June 6th, 2014

EDN has launched a tablet edition of the publication. Whilst many consumer publications have successfully adopted tablet formats, publications for electronics design engineers have been slow to make the move to iPad and Android, and typically have relied on browser-based digital editions. The tablet version of EDN certainly looks nice. It’s laid out specifically for…

There’s an app for that!

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014

It’s interesting to see how B2B publishers are taking advantage of tablets to distribute their content. Recently I’ve looked at apps from Process Industry Informer and HazardEx, which take slightly different approaches. The PII app is a Newsstand application on IOS (also available for Android)that provides an enhanced digital version of the publication with features…

Electronic Specifier launches German-language website

Friday, March 14th, 2014

Electronic Specifier has launched a new German-language website, www.electronicspecifier.de. The Electronic Specifier team has demonstrated their approach works with the current English and French websites, and it is good to see continued ambition to grow and expand. In Germany, the competition from other publishers is intense: certainly far greater than France, where there are few…

Email addresses at the publication will change to end “@newbusinessmedia.it”, but we are not aware of any plans that would affect Selezione di Elettronica. It should…

It’s still all about getting printed magazines in the post!

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

OK, we’re a long way from the days when your marketing campaigns relied on printed magazines being posted out to readers. But there are still many people in Europe who like – or even prefer – to receive their news in print, so publishers will be facing the challenge of physical distribution of magazines for…

I just want to spend some money!

Monday, December 16th, 2013

Popular journalist and part-time PR, Dick Selwood, sent me a note describing his frustrations when trying to find out information about various provocations. We have seen similar issues at Napier: sometimes you really do wonder whether publications want a share of your advertising budget! Rant mode on I am just trying to pull together a forward…

Electronics Weekly returns to the news

Monday, December 16th, 2013

I was never convinced by the argument that “no one reads the news in print any more”. Whilst it’s clear that consumption of news has moved online, there has always been a group of readers who prefer their news in print. It’s also clear that whilst the days of cutting and pasting press releases into…

Thursday, December 12th, 2013

Power Systems Design North America (PSDNA) will increase its print frequency from six issues a year to 10, matching the sister title Power Systems Design Europe (PSDE). Whilst the publishers haven’t said this, I suspect the editorial content of the two titles will get even closer, ultimately resulting in a single product that effectively allows…

Weka to publish show daily for embedded world

Thursday, December 5th, 2013

Weka will again publish the show daily for Embedded World in 2014. Whilst this is a long-standing arrangement, it’s still great to see a publisher committing to support events with printed show dailies.

E&E International reaches 65,000 readers

Saturday, November 30th, 2013

Whilst the value of local publications can’t be underestimated, there is a strong demand for international electronics publications that offer something a little different. The success of E&E international is a great example of this: with a circulation of 65,000 copies (50,000 digital, 15,000 pint) and now moving to four issues per year in 2014,…

New online automotive publication

Monday, November 25th, 2013

Popular journalist, Steve Rogerson, has launched a new online title called Vehicle Electronics. This is a great move, and replaces the hole left by the closure of Automotive Electronics. We also understand that Steve plans to launch Vehicle Electronics as a magazine in the near future. It’s great to see an entrepreneurial approach by a…

Positive response to ELEKTRONIKPRAXIS digital compendia

Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013

When publishers create innovative ways to reach the audience, it’s often hard to know how well they work, particularly if you don’t participate. So it was great to get some specific results from ELEKTRONIKPRAXIS about their latest digital compendium, which covered PCB technology and design. The idea is to publish the best articles on a…

It’s really sad to hear that David Williams has decided to call time on MT Publications, closing the company and shutting down both Micro Technology Europe and Automotive Electronics. UBM plans for the future

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013

Revenue fell by 11% in first half of 2013. Online revenue fell by 4%.   There’s a great article in theMediaBriefing about UBM’s plans to invest in future growth, and to transition to an "events-driven, digital content marketing business". Perhaps the most interesting thing for tech marketers is that UBM CEO David Levin said the…
